Penti Thermal Tights insulate against the cold with a fleece-like interior that fits close to the body. Outside they look like a normal opaque with a slight sheen; inside, a brushed lining traps warmth against the leg. A comfortable waistband and legging-style knit make them a practical winter layer for leisure, work and the school run.
How thermal tights keep you warm
Ordinary opaque tights get warmer only by getting thicker. Thermal tights work differently: the inside of the knit is brushed into a soft, fleece-like surface that holds a layer of still air next to the skin, which is what does the insulating. That is why a 150 denier thermal feels warmer than a 200 denier plain opaque while staying slimmer under boots and skirts. The polyester-rich yarn also dries quickly and keeps its shape, and the reinforced crotch and comfort waistband are built for daily wear rather than occasional use.

Thermal tights vs thick opaques
If you mainly want coverage and a matt look, the Penti Micro 200 is a heavy plain opaque without the lining. If warmth is the priority — walking to work, standing outdoors, a cold office — the fleece lining of the thermal wins, and it is less bulky. Are thermal tights really warmer than normal tights?
Yes. The brushed inner surface traps air the way a fleece does, so they insulate rather than just cover. Most people find a thermal comfortable outdoors on days when a standard opaque would leave their legs cold.
Can I wear thermal tights as leggings?
They are legging-style in weight and fit, so under a tunic, jumper dress or long coat they look like leggings. They are opaque and the finish has a slight sheen, so they also work with boots and a skirt as ordinary tights.
Which size should I choose?
Penti sizes 1 to 4 follow height and weight: match yours on our size guide. A thermal that is too small pulls at the waist and loses warmth where it is stretched thin, so go up if you are between sizes.
