How thermal tights keep you warm

Ordinary opaque tights get warmer only by getting thicker. Thermal tights work differently: the inside of the knit is brushed into a soft, fleece-like surface that holds a layer of still air next to the skin, which is what does the insulating. That is why a 150 denier thermal feels warmer than a 200 denier plain opaque while staying slimmer under boots and skirts. The polyester-rich yarn also dries quickly and keeps its shape, and the reinforced crotch and comfort waistband are built for daily wear rather than occasional use.
