Black Tights
Black tights are the one pair everyone owns and the one most people buy badly. This collection puts every black pair we sell on one page so you can choose by denier and finish rather than by guesswork: sheer 15 and 20 denier for dresses and the office, the best-selling Penti Micro 40 for everyday, 80 and 100 denier micro-fibre opaques for winter, 200 denier and thermal for the coldest days, plus black patterned and fishnet tights for evenings and weekends.
Two things separate a good black pair from a cheap one. The first is the knit: micro-fibre yarn gives a smooth, even matt black that does not go grey or shiny at the knee. The second is construction: a comfort waistband that does not roll, a cotton gusset and a reinforced toe. Every Penti pair here has all three and is made in Turkey by Europe's largest hosiery manufacturer; Italiana, Daymod and Dore pairs are made to the same standard. Sizes run from S to XL with a height-and-weight chart on each product page.
Not sure which denier you need? Our sheer tights page covers 20 denier and under, and opaque tights covers 40 denier and up. For something with a pattern, see patterned tights. Free delivery on every order, UK and worldwide.
Black Tights FAQs
What denier black tights should I wear?
For a dress in spring or autumn, 15–20 denier sheer black. For everyday from October onwards, 40 denier: opaque in daylight but still fine. For winter or with short skirts, 80–100 denier. If you are always cold, 150–200 denier thermal.
Why do black tights go grey or shiny?
Cheap opaques use a thick, low-twist yarn that flattens and reflects light at the knee and thigh, and washing them hot fades the dye. Micro-fibre opaques (the Penti Micro range) stay matt and black for far longer; wash at 30°C in a mesh bag and never tumble dry.
Do you sell black tights in larger sizes?
Yes. Most Penti and Italiana styles run from S to XL and several go to XXL; the size chart on each product page is based on height and weight, so you can pick the right one without guessing.
